"Haruki Murakami"
A Japanese writer in a very pop culture vein, with the blood in that vein very uniquely, Murakami. A large phenom in Japan, his books have been bestsellers. His writings, featuring for the most part, unemployed 'Don Quixote' heros who help fight evil by taking care of cats, sitting in coffee shops, or looking for old friends. His epic 'Wind-Up Bird Chronicle' touchs on a large tapestry of themes, including a look into the role of Japan in Manchuria. A lover and utilizer of Pop Culture, he enjoys such forms and entities as horror films and detective novels, rock and roll-Stephen King, Raymond Chandler, David Lynch, and the Doors. He has also written a book reporting on the Aum cult's poison sarin gas attack on a Tokyo subway in 1995. His book are fairly weird, though he is not. Bibliography for Haruki Murakami
